Sgt. Dennis Frederick, Port Authority of New York Police Department, Portsmouth

SGT. DENNIS FREDERICK, PAPD
Nominated by Nancy Newsome)
Portsmouth Fire Station #2
Auguest 23, 2011

Since the attack of 9/11, Sgt. Dennis Frederick, PAPD has been secluded, only going back to Ground Zero and The Officers Memorial once. On 9/11 when the call came in, Dennis and eight others responded swiftly to Tower own personal safety. He pressed forward and at Floor 22 assisted in the evacuation of hundreds of innocent victims to safety. His actions on that day exemplified extraordinary bravery in face of circumstances which could have led to grave personal injury or death in the line of duty. Sgt. Frederick’s leadership, decisiveness, and personal courage reflect the highest traditions of law enforcement. Of the eight, seven perished; Sgt. Frederick narrowly escaped death himself by diving under a fire truck while the tower was falling. I believe that he should be given the privilege of stitching The National 9/11 Flag.
