KATHLEEN A.K. LOPEZ
(Nominated by Bryan D. Carnes)
The National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base
June 24, 2011

I would like to nominate my friend, mentor and colleague Mrs. Kathleen A.K. López who is a Gold Star Survivor following the death of her husband, a Civil Service employee for the U.S. Air Force and an active volunteer at The Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals (SICSA). Kathleen and her husband, Capt. Robert I. López, were assigned to Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany in 2001. On June 27, 2002, her husband, an A-10 Thunderbolt II “Warthog” pilot, was killed in a single-aircraft accident during a combat training sortie near Domptail, France in preparation for deployment to Operation Enduring Freedom. Kathleen has been with the Civil Service for over 10 years and spent the last five years volunteering at SICSA. She is a true patriot who continues to serve her country and her community despite the loss she has endured.
