Timothy Baumhardt, Fond du Lac

TIMOTHY BAUMHARDT
(Nominated by Katie Bey)
Marian University Campus
October 23, 2010

When I met Tim Baumhardt about four years ago, it was immediately apparent that he is a man committed to his community, his nation, and his family.  I am continually awed by his gentle spirit, his giving nature, and his dedication to the causes in which he believes. Prior to my meeting Tim, he had represented his fellow citizens by serving on the Fond du Lac County Board for 10 years.  He is an ardent supporter of the local community of Eden, surrounding towns and the greater county of Fond du Lac.  Tim also serves as an Eden Volunteer Firefighter, a commitment to which he’s been dedicated for nearly 20 years.  When a call comes in, I always see that Mr. Baumhardt’s truck is one of the first to pull up to the fire station and one of the last to depart.  He does not often serve this organization in a major ‘leadership’ role, but will serve as called and is truly a man who goes above and beyond.  A skilled mechanic, Tim maintains the fire vehicles , making sure the trucks and equipment are ready when needed. In 2001, Tim also obtained training as a First Responder which has been a benefit to the community and to his duties as a firefighter.  More over, Tim has approached his responsibilities selflessly and professionally. Tim also contributes his time and assistance to residents who live on our street and in the village of Eden.  Volunteering his time to assist others with lawn mowing, outdoor maintenance, and other home improvement projects are routine for Mr. Baumhardt.  He is an active member of his faith community as well. His selfless volunteerism often pulls him away from his role as part owner of the family business where he has worked for more than 20 years and away from his wife and two young children.  Yet, to Tim Baumhardt, giving back, helping his neighbor and his community, are just what he is called to do. Tim is a true patriot.  He and I often talk about the value of the American Flag, how it stands for all we believe in.  In Tim’s own way, he is trying to give of his own gifts to serve the community and nation. I hope that Mr. Tim Baumhardt will be sincerely considered for the honor of joining the stitching ceremony of The National 9/11 Flag when it comes to Marian University, Wisconsin, on Saturday, October 23, 2010.  To me, Tim is, indeed, a worthy service hero!
