Liann Meyer, creator of Montana Supporting Soldiers, a nonprofit group based out of Helena that sends care packages to troops overseas.  The group sends a variety of care packages but the most popular items are calling cards, a morale booster that enabled the soldiers to phone home during the long months in Iraq. After seven years there are members in 13 states sending care packages to about 600 soldiers at a time. MSS has received several awards including a very special award given at the Freedom Salute in Livingston for the MT National Guard 143rd Military Police Detachment. MSS supported the 143rd last year while they were in Baghdad. They returned home October 31st 2010 and MSS received a Certificate of Appreciation and the Outstanding Center of Influence award. Liann was honored and quite overwhelmed by the award.
