Harry Martin, Southport

HARRY MARTIN
(Nominated by Nancy Martin)
Southport Baptist Church Christian Ministry Center
July 4, 2011

I’m nominating my patriotic husband, Harry Martin, who has dedicated his life to making our country a better place to live. He is the son of a single mother, who taught him to love God and his country. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Military Policeman in Viet Nam, then helping protect the Pentagon during a protest against that war. After his service, he went to college with help from the G.I. Bill. He became a physical education teacher, teaching at Southport Elementary School. While teaching, he returned to college, earning his Master’s Degree in school administration. He was assistant principal at Union Elementary School, then South Brunswick High School, then Virginia Williamson Elementary School before retiring as principal of Virginia Williamson Elementary. He was a positive influence on hundreds of students in Brunswick County. He is still a positive influence, teaching preschoolers every Sunday in our church. It would be an honor if he could place a stitch in this noble flag when it visits Southport
