Sgts Campbell Sowell & David Humes, Nashville

SGTS CAMPBELL SOWELL & DAVID HUMES
(Nominated by Don Aaron)
Hilton Nashville Downtown
July 2, 2011

Sergeants Sowell and Humes were off-duty on the morning of May 2, 2010 when they responded to the area of Pennington Bend Road and Penn Meade Drive near their homes.  As the flooding intensified, these two men worked quickly together to evacuate their neighbors by going door to door, ultimately in chest-deep water.  They then used Sergeant Humes’ boat to continue their rescue work.  Sgt. Sowell conducted this rescue work all the while knowing his own home and belongings were being heavily damaged by the water. (Pictured: Sgt Sowell)
