Ron Barber is Representative Gabby Giffords District Director. He was also injured in the shooting on January 8. Barber decided to volunteer for Giffords’ campaign the night he heard she was considering running for Congress in 2005. Before she announced her campaign, Barber offered his help, for free. “I just admire her a lot,” Barber said. “What attracted me to her, and still does, is first of all her heart. She is without question one of the most caring and compassionate people I have ever met.” Barber retired from his 32-year career with DES in 2006, and Giffords hired him full-time as head of her transition team, then as district director.
