My wife retired from the military as a colonel in 1997.  The first woman accepted into the Alabama State OCS program, she was usually the first woman to be assigned to positions throughout her 22 year career.   After retirement she became a contractor supporting the U.S. Army.  On 9/11 she was briefing the Director of Training in Room 3E486 of the Pentagon when the plane hit.  She was very lucky and escaped the building.  Others in adjoining offices were not so lucky.  9/11 had a profound effect on her and she decided to devote time to helping others.  Since then she has volunteered extensively in the community.  Today she is Regent of her 110 member DAR chapter; DAR VAVS Representative at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center; and State Chairman of the DAR Service for Veterans Committee, West Virginia DAR.  She is my service hero.
