SFC NORRIS GALATAS
(Nominated by Janis Galatas)
The Lauderdale AG Center
May 23, 2011

Norris is my husband, SFC (Sergeant First Class) Grayson “Norris” Galatas, wounded in Iraq in 2005.  He spent four long years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in DC undergoing 19 major surgeries and numerous procedures to put him back together again.  He was awarded a Service Dog named “Willie” by the Tower of Hope organization to help him balance his stricken body.  He has nerve damage on his right side and “foot drop” on the right foot.  Willie keeps him from getting so tired when he has to walk, keeps him from falling down, and helps him up when he does fall.  After all this time, now he is dealing with PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder) and TBI (Traumatic brain Injury)…it just took them longer to show up with him.  He is an ambassador for The Tower of Hope (who awards service dogs to combat injured veterans), the Wounded Warrior Project and Project Healing Waters just to name a few. I wrote his story in my book “A SOLDIER’S COURAGE”.
