Ginny Canady, Indian Wells

Ginny Canady is the widow of Navy CAPT Delmar L. Canady, USN. CAPT Canady was a WWII F4U Corsair Instructor Pilot, Helicopter Pilot and the Landing Signal Officer of the aircraft carrier USS Hoggatt Bay, CVE-75. Ginny followed her husband all over the USA during his 30-year career. They raised two sons, one of whom also earned his wings as a Naval Aviator. After retirement, Del became the Director of Airports for Riverside County. Together, Del and Ginny organized the annual Ship’s Reunions for the Hoggatt Bay crew. Del died unexpectedly at age 72. This tragic loss did not deter Ginny from continuing her dedication and service to others.  She still organizes the annual reunions across the USA. She is a Life Member of the Society of Military Widows and Legislative Chair of the local Chapter at March ARB. She has served three times as the President of the Retired Officers’ Wives Club, Chair of the Friendship Care Committee to assist grieving families. She is a Life Member of the Military Officers Ass’n of America (MOAA) and for 18 years has been the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Riverside March Field Chapter. Ginny is a constant volunteer for events at March Field supporting deploying and returning troops from Camp Pendleton, Ft Irwin, 29 Palms and March ARB. She writes a monthly column for the Chapter Newsletter, organizes the refreshments for Chapter fundraisers, decorates the tables at monthly Chapter lunches and dinners. This tireless Lady is at every Veteran’s event at the Riverside National Cemetery, at March ARB and in the Riverside Area. She is a worthy Patriot deserving of this distinctive Honor.
